Courte biographie
Les 'Éditions de la Galerie Simon' étaient le nom sous lequel Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler reprit ses activités de marchand d'art et d'éditeur à Paris après la Première Guerre mondiale (sa galerie d'origine ayant été fermée en 1914). Ouverte en 1920, la galerie succédait à la 'Galerie Kahnweiler' et redevint l'épicentre du cubisme. Kahnweiler représentait les 'quatre grands' : Picasso, Braque, Léger et Juan Gris. Il publia également les premières œuvres importantes d'André Masson, jetant ainsi un pont vers le surréalisme naissant.

Cette maison d'édition poursuivit l'œuvre pionnière de Kahnweiler dans le 'livre d'artiste'. Il publia les livres cubistes les plus importants, tels que 'Le Siège de Jérusalem' (1914) de Max Jacob avec des eaux-fortes de Picasso, et 'L'Enchanteur pourrissant' (1909) d'Apollinaire avec des gravures sur bois de Derain (tous deux techniquement antérieurs à 1920, mais faisant partie de son programme). Il publia également le premier 'livre d'artiste' surréaliste d'André Masson, 'Simulacre' (1925).
