Courte biographie
Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) était un artiste français. Figure clé du fauvisme, il y développe un style léger, élégant et décoratif. Son œuvre se caractérise par un trait calligraphique rapide, souvent détaché des aplats de couleurs vives. Après une brève phase cubiste, il se consacre aux scènes de régates, de concerts et de la Côte d'Azur. Il fut également un créateur influent de textiles et de céramiques. Il était un membre apprécié de l'École de Paris.

Dufy fut un illustrateur extrêmement important. Ses gravures sur bois pour 'Le Bestiaire' (1911) d'Apollinaire, commandées par Kahnweiler, sont un chef-d'œuvre du graphisme moderne précoce. Plus tard, il illustra de nombreux livres pour Vollard et Tériade, traduisant son style léger et rapide en eaux-fortes et lithographies pour des textes de Colette et Brillat-Savarin.
