Duthuit, Georges

Courte biographie
Georges Duthuit (1891-1973) était un critique d'art, byzantiniste et écrivain français. Il épousa Marguerite Matisse, la fille d'Henri Matisse, et devint un expert majeur de l'œuvre de son beau-père. Cependant, après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Duthuit devint l'un des défenseurs les plus éloquents de l'abstraction d'après-guerre. Il fut un champion précoce de Nicolas de Staël et du mouvement Art Informel (comme Riopelle et Bram van Velde). Il fut le fondateur de l'influente revue d'avant-garde 'transition'.

Duthuit fut l'auteur du catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre graphique de Matisse. En tant qu'écrivain, il collabora avec des artistes pour des 'livres d'artiste'. Un exemple célèbre est 'Miroir du Tagueur' (1960), illustré de lithographies par Jean-Paul Riopelle.
