Courte biographie
Fernand Léger (1881-1955) était un peintre, sculpteur et cinéaste français. Figure centrale du développement du cubisme, il créa un style personnel et unique connu sous le nom de 'Tubisme', construisant figures et objets à partir de formes cylindriques et mécaniques. Contrairement à Picasso et Braque, il utilisait des couleurs vives et primaires (influencé par l'Orphisme). Son œuvre célèbre le monde moderne et industriel, la machine et l'homme ordinaire. Il fut également un professeur et un peintre muraliste influent.

Léger fut un innovateur majeur du 'livre d'artiste'. Son chef-d'œuvre est 'La Fin du Monde filmée par l'Ange N.D.' (1919) de Blaise Cendrars, un livre pionnier combinant typographie et illustrations au pochoir. Il a également travaillé pour Kahnweiler ('Lunes en papier', 1921) et plus tard pour Tériade ('Cirque', 1950), traduisant son style graphique puissant en gravures sur bois et lithographies en couleurs.
