Bosschère, Jean de est né le 5 juillet 1878 à Uccle, Belgique. Il était une figure polyvalente, actif en tant qu'écrivain et artiste graphique. Son œuvre, caractérisée par une fantaisie grotesque et érotique, est souvent associée au Symbolisme et à l'Art Fantastique. Bien qu'il ait été actif avant l'apogée du Surréalisme, ses thèmes et son style non conventionnel rejoignent l'avant-garde ultérieure. Il a émigré à Londres puis en France.

Bosschère fut un illustrateur prolifique de ses propres livres et de ceux d'autres, utilisant des techniques comme l'eau-forte et la plume et encre. Ses illustrations pour 'Les Dix Livres de Fanny' (1920) sont célèbres.
