Kállai, Ernő est né le 9 septembre 1890 à Magyarkanizsa, Autriche-Hongrie. Il était un critique et théoricien influent qui a écrit sur l'art abstrait et constructiviste. Il a enseigné au Bauhaus à Weimar et fut un fervent défenseur de l'esthétique d'avant-garde. Ses écrits théoriques, souvent publiés dans des revues germanophones et internationales, furent cruciaux pour la diffusion de l'avant-garde rationnelle et géométrique en Europe.
