Courte biographie
Seligmann, Kurt est né le 20 juillet 1900 à Bâle, Suisse. Il a étudié à Bâle, Paris et Florence. Après avoir travaillé initialement de manière abstraite, il a rejoint les Surréalistes à Paris en 1937. Il s'est enfui à New York en 1939 et est devenu une figure centrale du Surréalisme en exil. Son œuvre, caractérisée par une figuration fantastique, occulte et anthropomorphe, fut une contribution importante à l'esthétique Surréaliste. Il était également un érudit respecté de l'art magique.

Seligmann fut un graphiste prolifique qui utilisa l'eau-forte et la lithographie pour ses illustrations Surréalistes. Il a contribué à de nombreux 'livres d'artiste' de poètes et écrivains Surréalistes, dont André Breton, souvent en collaboration avec les éditeurs d'avant-garde à New York et Paris.
