Robert Lebel est né le 5 janvier 1901 à Paris. Poète surréaliste, critique d’art et figure centrale du monde artistique parisien de l’après-guerre, il a travaillé en étroite collaboration avec Marcel Duchamp, auquel il consacra la première monographie. Son œuvre, à la fois poétique et théorique, a contribué à la diffusion du surréalisme et à sa réflexion critique durant la période d’après-guerre.
