Michel Leiris est né le 20 avril 1901 à Paris. Membre du noyau du mouvement surréaliste à partir de 1924, il devint par la suite un ethnographe et essayiste majeur. Son œuvre littéraire, marquée par une introspection radicale et par des expérimentations sur le langage, occupe une place essentielle dans la littérature française moderne. Étroitement lié à André Breton et aux cercles intellectuels de l’avant-garde, il participa à d’importantes publications et à plusieurs débats du surréalisme.
