Gilbert Lely est né le 27 mars 1904 à Paris. Poète proche du surréalisme, il orienta toutefois son œuvre vers un univers plus sensuel et mythologique que celui du groupe bretonien. Sa poésie et sa prose explorent les thèmes de l’érotisme, du mythe et de la puissance subversive du désir. Il demeure ainsi une voix indépendante importante de la littérature surréaliste et post-surréaliste.
