Tzara, Tristan

Courte biographie
Tristan Tzara (nom réel: Samuel Rosenstock) est né le 16 avril 1896 à Moinești, Roumanie. Il fut la figure centrale de la fondation de Dada à Zurich en 1916. Ses manifestes, sa poésie et son talent organisationnel furent cruciaux pour la diffusion de l'esthétique anti-art et anti-rationnelle de Dada. Après la période Dada, il rejoignit les Surréalistes à Paris, bien que sa relation avec André Breton ait souvent été tendue. L'attitude radicale constante de Tzara et ses expérimentations avec le langage et la typographie firent de lui la figure la plus cohérente de l'Avant-Garde littéraire précoce.

La contribution de Tzara au livre illustré est essentielle pour la typographie Dada et Surréaliste. Ses recueils de poésie et ses manifestes furent souvent imprimés avec des mises en page typographiques radicales et illustrés par des artistes Dadaïstes comme Jean Arp et Max Ernst, le livre lui-même étant défini comme un objet d'art dynamique. Un exemple est 'Vingt-cinq poèmes' (1918) avec des gravures sur bois de Jean Arp.
