Maurice de Vlaminck est né le 4 avril 1876 à Paris, France. Avec André Derain, il fut l'un des cofondateurs du **Fauvisme** (1905), le premier grand mouvement d'Avant-Garde du XXe siècle. Son œuvre précoce était caractérisée par l'utilisation radicale et non mélangée de la couleur qui reflétait l'état émotionnel de l'artiste. Après la période Fauviste, il se tourna vers un style plus structuré, mais toujours **Expressionniste**, avec des couleurs plus sombres, cherchant l'inspiration chez Van Gogh et Cézanne. Son rôle dans le Fauvisme fut crucial pour l'Avant-Garde dans sa révolte contre la peinture traditionnelle.
