A scarce four-page announcement for Michaux’s first exhibition of mescaline drawings at La Hune, 170 bd Saint-Germain, opening Thursday 12 January at 5 p.m. Both invitation and compact reflection, the text circles the very “trouble” provoked by mescaline’s perceptual tremors. Printed on ochre-yellow stock and simply folded, the austere typography lets the author’s voice carry the charge. It also advertises the contemporaneous book Misérable miracle (Éditions du Rocher), where Michaux organizes his observations. As ephemera, the piece distills a postwar turning point at the junction of poetry and graphic experiment. A concise, resonant object keenly pursued by collectors.
