Éditions L’Âge d’or (Henri Parisot)

Influential Parisian publishing series by Henri Parisot, crucial for post-war Surrealism and the rediscovery of precursors.

Short Biography

'L'Âge d'or' was a prestigious collection, founded in 1945 by the publisher and translator Henri Parisot (1908-1979). A close friend of André Breton, Parisot was a central figure in post-war Surrealism. The series, named after the film by Buñuel and Dalí, was intended to publish the most important texts of the Surrealist movement and its precursors (like the Gothic novel and Lewis Carroll) in definitive form. Parisot also published works by Benjamin Péret, Gisèle Prassinos, and Hans Bellmer.

Connection to the Book World

The books in the 'L'Âge d'or' series were often illustrated by Surrealist artists. Parisot published editions with graphics by Max Ernst, Hans Bellmer, and Victor Brauner. These books were essential for disseminating the surrealist aesthetic in bibliophily.
