Éditions Cercle d'Art is a French publishing house, founded in 1949 by Charles Feld. The publisher is inextricably linked with the work of Pablo Picasso. Feld became Picasso's primary publisher in the post-war period, producing a large number of his most important monographs, catalogues raisonnés, and illustrated books. Their focus was on making the work of modern masters accessible to a wider audience, but always with a very high quality of reproduction and design. They also collaborated with other artists such as Chagall and Léger.
Connection to the Book World
Cercle d'Art was a master of the 'art book' and the 'livre d'artiste'. They are famous for publishing Picasso's sketchbooks in facsimile and books designed specifically with the artist, often including original lithographs (printed by Mourlot). Examples include 'Toros y Toreros' (1961) and the 'Le Goût de notre temps' series. They defined the post-war art monograph.
