'Chez Lydia Conti' (later Galerie Lydia Conti) was an important Parisian art gallery founded in 1945. Lydia Conti was an early and fervent advocate for 'abstraction lyrique' (Lyrical Abstraction) and the Art Informel movement, which emerged as the European counterpart to American Abstract Expressionism. She exhibited key figures of the 'Nouvelle École de Paris', such as Hans Hartung, Nicolas de Staël, Wols, and Pierre Soulages. The gallery functioned as a crucial platform for this new, gestural, and matter-oriented art.
