Douglas Cooper (1911-1984) was an influential British art historian and collector who settled in France. He is recognized as one of the most important and dogmatic champions of Cubism. He built an unparalleled collection of the 'big four' Cubists: Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, and Fernand Léger. Cooper was a close friend of these artists (especially Léger and Picasso) and wrote foundational texts and catalogues raisonnés about them.
