Demolder, Eugène

Eugène Demolder (1862-1919) was a Belgian writer, jurist, and art critic. He is associated with the Symbolist movement and was active in the literary circles of 'La Jeune Belgique' and 'La Wallonie'. His novels, such as 'Le Jardinier de la Pompadour' (1891) and 'La Route d'émeraude' (1899), are poetic, atmospheric, and often inspired by the Old Flemish Masters (like Jordaens). He was a great admirer of the 17th century and a defender of modern Symbolist artists.
