Roland Dorgelès (pseudonym of Roland Lécavelé, 1885-1973) was a French writer and journalist. He was a well-known figure in the bohemian life of Montmartre before 1914, where he befriended Picasso and Modigliani. He participated in the infamous 'Boronali' hoax (1910), where a painting made by a donkey's tail was praised by critics, an act that seemed to parody the avant-garde (Dada). He became famous for his novel 'Les Croix de bois' (1919), one of the first and best novels about World War I.
