Short Biography
Jacques Dupin (1927-2012) was a French poet and art critic. His poetry, which is complex and earthy, was admired by René Char. Dupin's life was inextricably linked to the post-war 'École de Paris' as the main writer and director of publications for the Galerie Maeght. He was the chronicler and a close friend of Joan Miró, whose catalogue raisonné he wrote. He also wrote important monographs on Giacometti and Tàpies, and was the linchpin of the Maeght journal 'L'Éphémère'.
Connection to the Book World
As the in-house poet at Galerie Maeght, Dupin was the ideal partner for 'livres d'artiste'. His own poetry was illustrated by the artists he wrote about, especially Miró ('L'Issue dérobée') and Tàpies.
