Short Biography
Éditions Dynamo, also known as the 'Collection Dynamo', was founded in Liège (Belgium) by Pierre Aelberts (sometimes under the pseudonym 'Pierre Vuidet') and was active from 1945 into the 1970s. Aelberts was a poet and publisher who provided a platform for post-war Belgian and French poetry. He had ties to the Surrealist movement and published texts by important, sometimes dissident, Surrealists such as Achille Chavée and Paul Nougé. The publishing house was known for its bibliophilic, often minimalist but very well-produced editions.
Connection to the Book World
Dynamo produced 'livres d'artiste' on a small scale, often in the form of 'plaquettes' (thin booklets). These editions, printed on luxury paper, combined the poetry of authors like Chavée or Dotremont (CoBrA) with original graphics (etchings, linocuts) by Belgian modern artists such as Pol Bury.
