Aguayo, Fermín

Short Biography
Fermín Aguayo (1926-1977) was a Spanish painter. He co-founded the 'Grupo Pórtico' in Zaragoza in 1947, one of the first and most important Spanish avant-garde groups to embrace abstract art after the civil war. He moved to Paris in the early 1950s and became a respected member of the post-war 'École de Paris'. His work, related to Art Informel, is an abstract, poetic, and tactile exploration of color and matter.

Aguayo participated in 'livres d'artiste', collaborating with poets who shared his sensibility. His graphic work (etchings and lithographs) was used to illustrate bibliophile editions, published by specialized galleries and publishers in Paris, such as Éditions Fata Morgana.
