Looten, Emmanuel
French poet whose work is associated with the spiritual and mystical currents in modern poetry.
Short Biography
Looten, Emmanuel was born on April 20, 1908, in Hazebrouck, France. He was a poet whose work focused on mystical and religious themes, which stylistically placed him outside the Atheistic and politically radical Surrealist movement. Although a modernist, his contribution was rather to the spiritual side of French poetry.
Connection to the Book World
His poetry was often illustrated by traditional, religiously oriented artists in luxurious editions. His illustrated books are examples of religious bibliophily and not of the avant-garde 'livre d'artiste'.
