Short Biography
Prince Alexander Shervashidze was born on December 24, 1877, in the Principality of Abkhazia (now Georgia). He studied art in Paris and became a member of the Russian artists' group 'Mir Iskusstva' ('World of Art'). He settled in Paris and became an important set designer for Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, where he collaborated with Avant-Garde figures like Picasso and Braque. His designs were crucial for the visual renewal of the 'New Theater,' integrating the Avant-Garde aesthetic into the performing arts. He was a bridging figure between Russian and Parisian modern art circles.
