Reverdy, Pierre

Short Biography
Pierre Reverdy was born on September 13, 1889, in Narbonne, France. He moved to Paris in 1910 and befriended the Cubists (Picasso, Braque). He was the founder of the influential literary magazine Nord-Sud (1917-1918), which published the poetry of the Cubists, the Dadaists, and the early Surrealists. His poetry is characterized by sobriety, the use of concrete images, and a focus on the mysterious relationships between objects, which closely aligns with the aesthetic of Cubism. He is considered one of the fathers of modern French poetry and was a mentor to the Surrealists, who held him in high regard.
