Les Poquettes volantes. N° 1–62

SKU LESP-010

Les Poquettes volantes is a rare complete run of the small, mobile Daily-Bul publications from La Louvière. Between 1965 and 1979, 62 numbered issues appeared in a modest and handy small in-12 format. The series is an exceptional network document of Belgian and international post-Surrealist imagination, with contributions by the Piqueray brothers, Chavée, Scutenaire, Mariën, Alechinsky, Filliou, Topor, Joyce Mansour, Calonne and Pol Bury, among others. Its tone is light, sharp, absurd, poetic and often deliberately anti-explanatory. This copy is remarkable because several numbers bear autograph inscriptions to Jeanne and André Stas, to André Stas alone, and to François Jacqmin. The six prospectuses and the extra copy of no. 23 strengthen the ensemble as a small archive of circulation, friendship and literary complicity. As a complete run with such provenance, it is a core piece for The Hidden Page: a flying library of Daily-Bul, Surrealism, pataphysical humour and Belgian avant-garde.

Les Poquettes volantes. N° 1–62
1965 | La Louvière | Le Daily-Bul
This complete run of Les Poquettes volantes is an exceptional Daily-Bul ensemble. Its completeness, six prospectuses, duplicate no. 23 and multiple autograph inscriptions make it far more than an ordinary set. It preserves almost fifteen years of Belgian and international post-Surrealist energy in a form that is literally small, flying and irreplaceable.

Product DETAIL

The series consists of 62 small issues containing short texts, poetic interventions, absurd notes and literary miniatures by a broad circle around Daily-Bul. The content varies from issue to issue and forms neither a continuous novel nor a systematic periodical programme. Its strength lies precisely in the succession of voices: Piqueray, Chavée, Scutenaire, Mariën, Filliou, Topor, Mansour and others give the series the character of a playful collective cabinet. Many texts work through humour, paradox, dream logic, black lightness and the refusal of univocal meaning. The famous inscription in no. 4, praising the recipients for perhaps having the presence of mind not to ask what these poems “mean”, neatly sums up the poetics of the whole. The series reads as a long procession of small literary projectiles, each brief, autonomous and surprising. The accompanying prospectuses also show how these miniatures were announced and circulated as objects.

Arrière-histoire du poème pulvérisé
Char, Rene · Stael, Nicolas de
Arrière-histoire du poème pulvérisé

*Arrière-histoire du poème pulvérisé* is a later illustrated edition of a key text in which René Char looks back on the genesis and inner background of *Le Poème pulvérisé*. Published in 1972 by Imprimerie Union, it opens with a colour frontispiece by Nicolas de Staël. The pairing of Char and de Staël is especially charged: two post-war voices, each seeking concentration, clarity, and rupture in his own medium. This copy is one of only six hors commerce copies on Arches and is signed. The autograph presentation inscription to Doctor Marcel Zara, with poetic quotation and October 1972 dating, makes it a deeply personal copy.

Amis & Amille. Mystère du XIVe siècle.
Derain, André
Amis & Amille. Mystère du XIVe siècle.

This sumptuously bound book brings a medieval mystery to life through a rare collaboration between ancient literature and modern illustration. The geometric box design on garnet morocco provides striking contrast. André Derain’s 22 color lithographs – including one double and three full-page – enhance the narrative with expressive visual force. Printed on Rives vellum in an edition of 180 numbered copies, this copy (No. 72) was made for Baroness Vaxelaire and includes a suite on fine Japanese paper. The binding by Lucie Weill exemplifies artisanal excellence. A harmonious blend of narrative tradition and graphic daring.

L'arbre descend du singe
Bédouin, Jean-Louis · Hallart, Guy
L'arbre descend du singe

L'Arbre descend du singe is a beautifully illustrated edition that highlights the collaboration between the poet Jean-Louis Bedouin and the artist Guy Hallart. The work, published in a limited edition, is characterized by a rich dialogue between poetry and image, where the visual compositions reflect the dreamy and often cryptic nature of Bedouin's texts. The book is a tangible testament to the artistic symbiosis between the two creators and offers a unique insight into a creative dialogue from the mid-1970s.

The Fragile Meaning of ‘Complet’

In auction descriptions, “complete” often sounds reassuring — but it is only meaningful when verified against the colophon, the justification, and the bibliography. For The Hidden Page, clarity begins where vague market language ends.
