Une autre étude sur Raymond Roussel

SKU UNEA-002

Une autre étude sur Raymond Roussel is a key publication in the reception of Roussel within the Collège de ’Pataphysique. Jean Ferry, himself a writer, screenwriter, pataphysician and acute reader of the improbable, returns here to Raymond Roussel as to a secret machine of modern literature. The study focuses on cantos I, III and IV of Nouvelles Impressions d’Afrique, one of Roussel’s most enigmatic and formally extreme works. The edition appeared on 11 gidouille XCI, corresponding to 25 June 1964, and thus immediately bears the Collège’s double chronology. As an in-4 publication with frontispiece and illustrations, it is more than a simple essay: it is a ceremonial document of reading, commentary and admiration. This copy belongs to the deluxe issue of 259 copies on Pur Chiffon Ponukéléen Authentique in ivy-green wrappers and is numbered 68. The inserted pink New Year card, signed by five people including Jean Ferry and Lantis, turns the ensemble into a small network object around Roussel, Ferry and the pataphysical circle.

Une autre étude sur Raymond Roussel
1964 | Paris | Collège de ’Pataphysique / Viridis Candela
This copy brings together Roussel exegesis, pataphysical deluxe production and direct network provenance. As number 68 of 259 copies on Pur Chiffon Ponukéléen Authentique, it is bibliographically attractive; with the signed pink card, it also becomes humanly and historically vivid. It is a notably strong object for a collection devoted to Roussel, Jarry, the Collège and the formal avant-garde.

Product DETAIL

The text examines specific parts of Raymond Roussel’s Nouvelles Impressions d’Afrique, namely cantos I, III and IV. Ferry does not simply summarize Roussel’s poem, but follows the mechanisms, deviations, repetitions and logical detours through which Roussel constructs his text. The central question is how meaning arises from procedure, construction and extremely controlled imagination. The book reads Roussel’s complex poetry as a system of detours in which description, parenthesis and association constantly generate new branches. The frontispiece and illustrations support this reading as visual anchors for a text that is itself almost labyrinthine. The result is a study that is both commentary and homage: Ferry shows why Roussel remained an inexhaustible source for the twentieth-century avant-garde.

Arrière-histoire du poème pulvérisé
Char, Rene · Stael, Nicolas de
Arrière-histoire du poème pulvérisé

*Arrière-histoire du poème pulvérisé* is a later illustrated edition of a key text in which René Char looks back on the genesis and inner background of *Le Poème pulvérisé*. Published in 1972 by Imprimerie Union, it opens with a colour frontispiece by Nicolas de Staël. The pairing of Char and de Staël is especially charged: two post-war voices, each seeking concentration, clarity, and rupture in his own medium. This copy is one of only six hors commerce copies on Arches and is signed. The autograph presentation inscription to Doctor Marcel Zara, with poetic quotation and October 1972 dating, makes it a deeply personal copy.

Derain, André
Amis & Amille. Mystère du XIVe siècle.

This sumptuously bound book brings a medieval mystery to life through a rare collaboration between ancient literature and modern illustration. The geometric box design on garnet morocco provides striking contrast. André Derain’s 22 color lithographs – including one double and three full-page – enhance the narrative with expressive visual force. Printed on Rives vellum in an edition of 180 numbered copies, this copy (No. 72) was made for Baroness Vaxelaire and includes a suite on fine Japanese paper. The binding by Lucie Weill exemplifies artisanal excellence. A harmonious blend of narrative tradition and graphic daring.

Arriver à se réveiller
Michaux, Henri · Bettencourt, Pierre
Arriver à se réveiller

A rare first edition of Arriver à se réveiller, written by Henri Michaux in the tremulous post-war years. The text unfolds as an inward journey toward lucidity, where sleep and waking mirror each other. Printed and published by Pierre Bettencourt in his own workshop, the edition’s small run preserves the work’s intimacy. The title-page vignette, a linocut by Bettencourt, sets a spare, rhythmic visual key that amplifies Michaux’s vigilant, vulnerable tone. This copy is handsomely bound in brown morocco with balsa boards by Miguet, a tactile nod to lightness under tension. For bibliophiles, it is an exemplary union of poetry, craft, and experiment. The volume embodies the independence of the post-war small press and Michaux’s radical sensitivity.
